Development of a validated spectrofluorimetric method for assay of sotalol hydrochloride in tablets and human plasma: application for stability-indicating studies

Abstract: The native fluorescence of sotalol hydrochloride (SOT) was used as a basis for establishing a new method of analysis for SOT in tablets and spiked human plasma. The fluorescence of SOT in water was measured at 310 nm when excited at 235 nm. The detection limit (LOD) was 0.37 ng/mL and the quantification limit (LOQ) was 1.08 ng/mL. The proposed method offers high sensitivity which permits determination of SOT, even if present in a very small amount, in human plasma. The obtained results were successfully compar… Show more

“…Therefore, several spectrofluorimetric methods were reported for the deter-mination of β-blockers in pharmaceutical formulations, biological samples, and the environment. [37][38][39][40] For example, Bakir et al in 2018 38 determined atenolol in a pharmaceutical formulation by a fluorimetric method based on the atenolol quenching effect on the photoluminescence of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). Also, Abdewelwahab et al 37 studied the native fluorescence of bisoprolol and rosuvastatin in human plasma by spectrofluorimetry.…”

“…Conductometric titration with a solution of argentum nitrate sotalol hydrochloride in the substance and drugs is described [12]. Fawzia A. Ibrahim and co-authors proposed a sensitive method of spectrofluorimetric determination of sotalol in dosage forms and plasma by its own fluorescence [13]. Another spectrofluorimetric technique is based on quenching the fluorescence intensity of the palmate complex with cucurbituril with sotalol [14].…”

“… 22 Furthermore, indicators of the PR interval and QRS duration of the ECG were also used to evaluate atrioventricular and intraventricular conductivities. In order to validate and define the sensitivity of the experimental system, sotalol hydrochloride (Sol), an antiarrhythmic agent, which is known to prolong the PR interval and QT interval and widen the QRS duration, 23 was used as the positive control drug. In addition, an implantable telemetry system strongly recommended by ICH and CFDA in safety pharmacology studies and has been used in the pharmaceutical industry for safety evaluation, 24 was applied in the present study.…”
