Development of a Multisensor Embedded Intelligent Home Environment Monitoring System Based on Digital Signal Processor and Wi-Fi

Abstract: Wi-Fi has been widely adopted by families in Taiwan, for it has the advantage of designing family monitoring systems with its wide usage. Therefore, there are many advantages for designing family monitoring systems. Based on our previous research architecture, we implemented a monitoring system for family environments based on Wi-Fi and sensor technologies. Humidity, gas, smoke, and temperature sensors are applied for designing and developing the intelligent home environment monitoring system in this paper. A … Show more

“…The enabling technology, named Atlas, is a platform allowing developers to design and implement the “smartness” of a house without the need for input from engineers or system integrators (Helal and Chen, 2009). Other projects have also be carried out related to home automation, home monitoring and smart homes, including the Adaptive House by the University of Colorado, Carnegie Mellon’s Intelligent Workspace and the Georgia Tech Aware Home (Chen et al , 2015).…”

“…Other smart home approaches, such as the work of Chen et al . (2015), are favoring Wi-fi wireless technology for data transmission in comparison to the ZigBee standard due to its reliability and its popularity. This paper introduces a multi-sensor embedded home monitoring framework, including humidity, gas, smoke, and temperature sensors.…”

“…Several research projects have proposed a home energy management system (HEMS) [ 27 ], or cost-effective ecosystem to reduce power consumption [ 28 ], and improve the demand response system to accommodate user preference changes and satisfaction. Chen [ 29 ] proposed a remarkable Digital Signal Processor and Wi-Fi framework to monitor environment information to refer to, without human behavior detection. In China, taking the average economic level and the amount of population into account, there are 0.2 billion people over 60 this year with a gene coefficient of 4.7.…”
