“…P. huashanica is characterized by a dwarfed stature, early maturity, with resistance to drought, salinity, wheat stripe rust and take-all fungus. It is therefore a potentially useful germplasm source for wheat improvement (Chen et al 1991;Jing et al 1999;Wang and Shang 2000;Zhao et al 2004Zhao et al , 2010Kang et al 2009). In order to transfer desirable traits from P. huashanica into wheat, our research team successfully hybridized common wheat and P. huashanica without using embryo rescue, and developed a new intergeneric amphiploid line (PHW-SA, 2n = 8x = 56, AABBD DNsNs) with resistance to stripe rust (Kang et al 2008(Kang et al , 2009.…”

“…Several P. huashanica genes have already been introgressed successfully into the wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) genome (Zhao et al, 2010;Du et al, 2013a,b). In the 1990s, we generated (Chen et al, 1991(Chen et al, , 1996 the F 1 hybrid H881 (2n = 28, ABDNs) and a derived heptaploid H8911 (2n = 49, AABBDDNs) of common wheat cv.…”

“…It is characterized by high resistance to cold, salinity, drought, and barren conditions, and it also exhibits a dwarfed stature, early maturity, and resistance to scab, stripe rust, take-all, and powdery mildew (Zhao et al, 2010;Wang et al, 2011).…”
