Developing and testing a multi‐dimensional knowledge management model on Slovenian SMEs

Abstract: Purpose -The purpose of this paper is to use a structural equation modelling technique to verify a theoretically proposed model of knowledge management (KM). Design/methodology/approach -Existing studies on KM were reviewed and their limitations were identified. Mailed structured questionnaire data for this study were collected from small-and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Slovenia (168 usable responses). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis with structural equation modelling was used to estimate t… Show more

“…In previous years, several authors identified KM practices as a systematic approach to capturing, managing and the utilisation of knowledge to ensure efficiency (Nonaka and Takeuchi, 1995). More recently, the clear connection between SMU capturing information, towards organisationally managing such, are reflected in current strategic and opeprational management literature (see Gomezelj Omerzel et al , 2011; Vuori and Okkonen, 2012; Bharati et al , 2015; Garrido-Moreno et al , 2015).…”

“…Exploring and reviewing the wide and contemporary literature, within this pragmatic field, reinforces credible and prevalent assumptions of the acquisition and exploitation of knowledge (Adner and Kapoor, 2010; Chirico and Salvato, 2016; Helms et al , 2017). This can be said for the benefit of all businesses, from small enterprises to multinationals (see Gomezelj Omerzel et al , 2011; Manfreda et al , 2015). Nevertheless, a prescriptive and strategic model is not clearly stipulated, defined or illustrated towards the entrepreneurial context.…”

“…(2009) Storage/retention/ representation/handling/ recovery knowledge It is the process of storing the knowledge of every individual who has ties to the organization. After being identified, extracted and organized, it is used to develop the organizational memory of the company Gomezelj Omerzel et al (2011), Ale et al (2014), Wang and Meng (2018), Lee et al (2010), Carayannis (1999) Creation/generation/ increase/adaptation/ innovation/knowledge development It is an internal process of transformation, aiming to satisfy the need for an area, which occurs through the conversion of tacit knowledge to explicit knowledge. This process is also understood as developmental and allows the organization to understand, synthesize, reallocate, diversify and create new processes and alternatives for diverse areas within the organization from an existing source of knowledge Source: From research data, 2020 Levinthal, 1990:129).…”
