Determination of the thermophysical properties of liquid and solid Ti–6Al–4V alloy

Abstract: The surface tension and specific heat for liquid ternary Ti-6Al-4V alloy were measured by the oscillating drop method and drop calorimetry, respectively, under containerless condition over broad temperature ranges. The solidification microstructures at different undercoolings appeared as the basket-weave morphology. The relationship between dendritic growth velocity of b phase and undercooling was determined as a power function, and the growth velocity attained 22.21 ms -1 at the maximum undercooling of 252 K … Show more

“…The HAZ size was determined by the thermal diffusivity of each material. The thermal diffusivity of the Inconel 718 was higher than that of the Ti-6Al-4V, and the HAZ was smaller in the Inconel 718 [ 46 , 47 ]. The HAZ depths of the Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 were reduced by 16.07% and 14.42%, respectively, according to the Ti-Nb-Cr-V-Ni-Al deposition.…”

“…Only thermal undercooling is considered in the present work [28]. Based on this assumption, the dendritic growth velocity equation is assumed as a power function of thermal undercooling [45]. The nucleated grains are assigned a crystallographic orientation q at random.…”

“…For example, Dhupal et al 7 investigated the relationship between processing parameters of pulsed Nd:YAG laser-turning operation in the production of microgrooves on cylindrical ceramic workpieces, coarse-grained diamond grinding wheels were microstructured with a UV nanosecond-pulsed laser proposed by Guo et al, 8 and Walter et al 9 introduced surface microstructuring using a picosecond pulsed laser ablation method to inuence the grinding behavior of high-strength bonded CBN grinding wheels. Additionally, with respect to metal and alloy materials, Zhou et al 10,11 measured the thermal diffusivity of solid titanium and Ti-6Al-4V alloy in the solid state using a laser ash method.…”
