The study assessed the perception of women farmer’s household’s heads on the effectiveness of extension service delivery in Borno state, Nigeria. Both primary and secondary source of information were used for the study. Multistage sampling technique was employed for the study. Structured questionnaire was administered to 270 respondents as the sample size. Descriptive statistics such as frequency, Percentages, means, standard deviation and Likert type scales were used for data analysis. Extension had succeeded in changing traditional to modern farming practices alongside the Knowledge of; modern technologies (4.23), understanding research-based information (2.58), Attitude; less suspicious of scientific recommendations (3.88), more open to using modern technologies (3.43), Skills; more competent in the use of modern farming/ practices (2.58), local feeds formulation (3.09), selection of high valued enterprise (3.39), Aspiration; boast morale towards farming (2.6). Inadequate demonstration materials, inappropriate schedules for extension meetings, lack of cooperation by extension agents, were rated 1st and identified as the most critical problems to effective extension service delivery in the study area. The study recommended that, schedules of extension meetings should take into cognizance the schedule of women with regards to their household chores.

The study is on economic analysis of soybean production in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The objectives of the study were to describe the socio-economic characteristics of soybeans farmers and estimate the production function for soybeans in the study area, estimate the cost and return of soybeans production. A simple random sampling technique was used to select 120 respondents. Primary data were collected with a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics; mean percentage and frequency and production function. The result showed that the soybeans farmers were mostly young people, married, and literate with large household sizes. Also, 88.3% of the farmers cultivated less than one hectare, while 11% cultivated between 1.0 to 2.0 hectares of land. The estimated production function had a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.943, implying that about 94.3% variation in the output of soybeans were accounted for by seed and labour, that increase in any of the variables will lead to increase in output of soybeans. The study, therefore, recommended that improved inputs be made available on time, in right amounts and at affordable prices to the farmers by the government and other stakeholders in other to enhance production.

This paper examined farmers’ preference and willingness to pay (WTP) for climate-smart rice varieties in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State, Nigeria. A total of 80 respondents were purposely selected from 5 major rice growing communities in the study area. Questionnaire was the main tool for data collection. Also, data on climate elements (such as temperature and rainfall volume) for a period of 35 years (1986–2020) were obtained from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET). Multinomial logit model, ordinary least square (OLS) regression model, descriptive statistics and trend analysis were employed for data analysis. The results show that FARO 44 was preferred by 95% of the farmers for grain size, 100% of farmers preferred it for days to maturity, 76.2% preferred it for strength of grain to withstand breakage during processing, 98.75% preferred it for potential yield (tons) and plant height (cm) and 87.5% preferred it for its ecological adaptation. Farmers’ preference and willingness to pay for climate-smart rice varieties were influenced by attributes of these varieties and knowledge of such technologies, primary occupation, farm size, extension visits and access to media information and farm size. This study recommends that government should provide extension agents with the adequate resources to enable them carry out their duties more effectively.
