Detection of long‐lived species in plasma‐activated water, based on digital colorimetry

Abstract: To fit a specific application, a cheap and effective manner of measurement of chemistries in plasma‐activated water (PAW) is in demand. We propose a digital colorimetry‐based method of quantifying the long‐lived species in PAW using only smartphones and specialized software. Pin−plate discharge and surface microdischarge were used to generate the PAWs. H2O2 and NO2− were selected as representatives for the test. Various color parameters were extracted from images of a solution consisting of testing species and… Show more

“…The detection method of NO 2 − was the same as that in the penetration experiment above. A more detailed procedure for NO 3 − and H 2 O 2 detection could be found in References [30] and [24], respectively. As in the penetration detection, H 2 O 2 was not detected in the solution.…”

“…At the present time the development of methods for measuring characteristics and parameters of research objects using digital photo and video cameras for providing metrological traceability and implementing the principle of comparison with reference values is continuing [1,2]. Digital recorders are used in modern science and technology everywhere [3][4][5][6][7]. Modern digital colorimeters calculate colour and chromaticity parameters in different colorimetric systems.…”

“…The review by Ranieri et al [ 2 ] details the role of nonthermal plasma in the development of plants from seeds to crops, and it provides the context to design plasma‐based fertilization strategies to address the needs of plants and their ecosystem. Next, several research papers deal with plasma activation of air and water for agricultural purposes, first from general scientific points of view, [ 3–5 ] but then also related to specific applications like toxin removal, [ 6 ] decontamination of crop seeds, [ 7 ] and viniculture. [ 8 ]…”
