Abstract: This paper reports the design of a Leuconostoc-specific oligonucleotide based on 16S rRNA sequence data. When this oligonucleotide was used in a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in conjunction with an oligonucleotide to a conserved region of the 16S rRNA sequence, a Leuconostoc-specific PCR product of approximately 470 bp was produced.
