Detection, characterization and identification of major constituents in Zhimu‐Baihe herb‐pair extract by fast high‐performance liquid chromatography and time‐of‐flight mass spectrometry through dynamic adjustment of fragmentor voltage

Abstract: This work describes a novel methodology for unequivocal identification of chemical constituents in Zhimu-Baihe herb-pair (ZMBHHP). Compounds were removed from ZMBHHP by ultrasonic extraction with 70% ethanol, and then analyzed by fast high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOFMS). The accurate-mass capability of the TOF analyzer allowed reliable confirmation of the identity of the detected compounds, normally with mass errors below 3 ppm in routine analysis… Show more

“…According to the literature reports, triple quadrupole (QQQ) mass spectrometers can provide relatively abundant fragment ions by appropriately adjusting the fragmentor voltage [17][18][19]. In this study, we used ESI-MS and set a high fragmentor voltage (F = 380 V) to analyse the human intestinal bacteria metabolites of ADS-I in both positive and negative ionization modes.…”

“…High resolution mass spectrometry has become an important tool in the qualitative and quantitative analysis of multiple compounds in complex matrices including herbal components [1,2], endogenous metabolites [3], peptides [4], and lipids [5]. However, a great challenge normally encountered in data processing is the detection of untargeted components as the ions of potential interest are largely masked by background noise.…”

“…Most TCMs were often prepared from crude plants, and comprise complex mixtures of different phytochemical constituents [4][5][6][7][8]. Many big pharmaceutical companies are using TCMs as an excellent pool for discovering natural bioactive compounds.…”
