Abstract: The impact of ozone on the immunity-impairing activity of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) was studied. Phagocytosis by rat peritoneal macrophages, which was found to be suppressed in the presence of AFB1, remained unimpaired when the applied AFB1 was pretreated with ozone (1.2 mg l-1) for 6 min at a flow rate of 40 ml min-1. Hence, application of ozone on AFB1-contaminated foodcrops seems to be a promising preventive measure against any adverse immunological disorder in consumers.
