Design optimization of an axial-field eddy-current magnetic coupling based on magneto-thermal analytical model

Abstract: This paper presents a design optimization of an axial-flux eddy-current magnetic coupling. The design procedure is based on a torque formula derived from a 3D analytical model and a population algorithm method. The main objective of this paper is to determine the best design in terms of magnets volume in order to transmit a torque between two movers, while ensuring a low slip speed and a good efficiency. The torque formula is very accurate and computationally efficient, and is valid for any slip speed values. … Show more

“…Furthermore, due to not taking into account the cooling effect from the motor's ventilator, the simulated temperature is above that measured by the sensors and infrared camera. This has greater importance as winding can reach temperatures harmful to insulation and decrease its service life [50].…”

“…In order to overcome the oscillatory effect, the series is still taken as the basic form of the field value solution. In solving the continuation function, a decomposition function with a relatively smooth variation is selected and the error of fitting it to the original field is minimized on the original observation profile, so that the analytical function of regularized downward continuation series after correction can be obtained (Zhang et al, 2015;Fontchastagner, Lubin, Mezani, & Takorabet, 2018).…”

“…The development of the rare earth permanent magnet materials with high magnetic energy products makes magnetic drive technology more and more widely used in engineering practices [1]. There are various types of magnetic drive mechanisms with perfect functions, such as permanent magnet clutch [2], magnetic gear [3], magnetic thrust bearing [4], magnetic coupling [5], and permanent magnet motor [6], which have been used in petroleum, chemical industry, medicine, textile, and occasions with special transmission requirements. Magnetic drive technology is based on the magnetics theory and can realize the non-contact transmission of force or torque through the action of the magnetic fi eld.…”
