Design of Electrical Rotating Machines by Associating Deterministic Global Optimization Algorithm With Combinatorial Analytical and Numerical Models

Abstract: This paper presents a new methodology of design of electrical rotating machines. The methodology is an extension of previous works of the second author. Indeed, associating combinatorial analytical models with exact global optimization algorithms leads to rational solutions of predesign. These solutions need to be validated by a numerical tool (using a finite-element method) before the expansive phase of hand-making a prototype. Such an automatic numerical tool for computing some characteristic values, such as… Show more

“…Previous work has shown the possibility to use some black-box constraints with IBBA. But, it works only with numerical constraints (not the objective) and with relative fast models (∼1 s), as described in [7]. In the present case, the CPU time of a torque computation is greatly higher.…”

“…In 2009 used the concept of direct-drive PM wind generation system optimum design models in which the PM is developed using an improvised genetic algorithm along with a 500 kW direct drive PM generator; this actually reduces the cost of generator active material which further illustrates design optimization effectiveness [25]. Furthermore, [78] (2007) proposed a novel approach for the design of electrical rotating machines wherein a rational solution of predesign was done by integrating exact global optimization algorithms and analytical model. However, prior to developing an extensive prototype, validation of previous solutions should be performed using FEM.…”

“…This new technique enables in solving the design problems in a rational way. A few numerical examples evaluate the effectiveness of the new approach [29]. Chunhua implemented a new 36/24 -pole outer -rotor permanent magnet (PM) hybrid machine for directlycoupled wind power generation.…”
