Deposition of Al2O3 ceramic film on copper‐based heterostructured coatings by aluminizing process: Study of the electrochemical responses and corrosion mechanism of the coating

Abstract: The effect of deposition of the Al2O3 ceramic film by the aluminizing method on electrochemical responses and corrosion mechanism of copper‐based heterostructured coatings was studied. The single layer coatings of Cu and Al2O3 and Cu/Al2O3 double layers were produced using reverse pulsed current electroplating process followed by powder cementation of aluminum on a substrate made of Inconel 600 superalloy. The produced coatings were then characterized using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive… Show more

“…Electrodeposition is a metal coating process, which precipitates cations on another material, such as metal, by electric current. 75 Compared with other preparation processes, electrodeposition has the advantages of simple process, low cost, low temperature, easy to obtain nanostructure, as well as the production of high-density and porosity-free coatings. 76 Di, et al, 77 Polymer-derived ceramics (PDC) is a material in which silicon polymers are crosslinked by polymer chains during heating, chemistry, or radiation, forming unmeltable and insoluble polymeric coatings, and then converted into a ceramic coating after further treatment.…”

“…The lowest corrosion potential (E cor ) and corrosion current density (j cor ) were achieved for a pure AZ91D magnesium substrate (−1.53 V versus SCE and 1.55×10 -4 A cm −2 ) without any coating. Because of the inclusion of phosphorus and boron in coated samples, the current density (1.11×10 -6 A cm −2 ) decreased and the corrosion potential (-0.365 V) increased after electroless plating of Ni-P-B coating at 0 wt% [53][54][55]59]. The decrease in current density is due to the high thickness and uniform Ni-P-B coating on AZ91D magnesium alloy, which prevents NaCl solution from penetrating the substrate without any defects or micropores [59,60].…”

“…On the other hand, the sintering of nano powders and metal alloys has also been studied extensively in the experiments [18][19][20][21][22][23][24] . Sabzi et al experimentally studied the effects of different sintering parameters on the microstructure evolution [18] , density and hardness of nano-powder cemented carbide products.…”
