Abstract: Selected phenotypic characters, melting temperature of chromosomal DNA and DNA sequence homology have been determined for 10 strains of Thermoactinomyces thalpophilus and reference strains of T. vulgaris, T. putidus, T. sacchari and ‘T. candidus’. All strains conformed to their respective species descriptions and all DNA base compositions were between 48·7 and 52·2 mol% guanine plus cytosine.
