Abstract: This paper present a study to apply the X-ray densitometry technique in obtaining density profiles, along the thickness of new composites made from eucalyptus fibers and sugarcane bagasse particles. Experimental panels were made in treatments with different percentages of both raw materials and bonded with two urea formaldehyde resin percentages, 13% and 16%, with target density of 750 kg m -3 , obtaining density profiles and qualitative variables of maximum, medium and minimum densities. The results indicated… Show more

“…Figure 3 shows the influence of the rape straw share on the density profile of the 16-mm particleboard. Similar profiles were obtained by Belini et al (2014) for composites made of bagasse and eucalyptus. They detected decreased and inhomogeneous density in the central region along the thickness for panels with 75% and 100% bagasse, indicative of incomplete resin cure, or improper particle size and anatomical structure of the particles in the inner panel, or changes in the press cycle variables.…”

“…It is also applied in other materials similar to wood. For example, Zhaohui et al [18] use this same technique to determine the radial density variation profile of bamboo; while Belini et al [19] use densitometry to evaluate the quality of medium density fiberboards (MDF).…”

“…Após a primeira redução de partículas, iniciou o processo de secagem das partículas que consistiu em duas etapas sendo a primeira ao ar livre. E a segunda etapa em Utilizando a Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV), foram obtidas imagens para verificar a interação das partículas de madeira/resina no interior dos painéis, bem como a obtenção dos perfis de densidade dos painéis ao longo da espessura (BELINI et al, 2013).…”
