Densities of some binary liquid mixtures. Part II

Abstract: Densities of methanol-water and 1 : 4 dioxan-ethanol at 25" are reported, and in the latter system there axe considerable differences from previously published data. Attempts to interpret molecular interaction from partial mold volume-mol. fraction curves are described.

“…[The values of Vs are also shown in Table I, and a comparison between our data and those of other workers is shown in Figure 1, where deviations of the V6 values from the parabola 4 x(1 -x) are plotted.] There is excellent agreement between the present measurements and those of Gibson (11), while the measurements of Griffiths (12) scatter badly and are obviously unreliable.…”

“…Accurate density-composition data were required for the analysis of liquid and vapor samples from the equilibrium still. The two sets of published measurements (11,12) differ significantly, and it was therefore thought desirable to repeat the measurements. (Since these measurements were made, it has been widely recognized that it is more accurate and simpler experimentally to measure Vs directly and to deduce therefrom the densities of the mixtures.…”

“…Dynamical quantities for the time correlation functions were output every 7 fs and the configuration of the system was output every 70 fs. The densities, [39][40][41] volume fractions, and number of molecules in each simulation are listed in Table I.…”

“…Such behaviour is shown, for example, by the partial molar volumes in aqueous solutions of ethanol and of 1,4-dioxan 10 (Figure 4.4). The partial molar volumes of Schott 11 have improbable extrema. The partial molar volumes of Schott 11 have improbable extrema.…”
