“…Based on the phenotypic characteristics of patients in the HH and HE groups, one would expect to see maxillary deformities especially in the patients of the HH group. In our studies we found maxillary deformities especially in the HE and hybrid group of patients 18,34 , as compensatory maxillary alveolar growth is especially seen in those patients 9,12,17 . The mandibular dental midline shift itself may not be the cause of persistent dentofacial deformities after HC, but the compensatory maxillary alterations are.…”

“…Multiple treatment protocols for facial asymmetry induced by unilateral condylar hyperactivity have been published, matching the great diversity in morphological presentation 16 . These comprise (1) singlestage OS after cessation of condylar growth, (2) high or proportional condylectomy followed by orthodontic treatment, (3) high or proportional condylectomy followed by secondary OS after a follow-up period, and (4) single-stage combined condylectomy and OS 17,18 . A condylectomy aims to arrest condylar overgrowth and stabilize the dentofacial deformity, but it may even correct the amount of transverse mandibulofacial asymmetry.…”
