“…However, we found that PCB exposure up-regulated the expression of genes that are positively regulated by TH. These findings indicate that PCBs can activate TRs, perhaps directly, and the implication is important because inappropriate activation of TRs in the developing brain may produce adverse consequences on brain development (Kopelman 1983;Rastogi andSinghal 1976, 1979;Zoeller 2003).…”

Exaggerated anticipatory anxiety is common in social anxiety disorder (SAD). Neuroimaging studies have revealed altered neural activity in response to social stimuli in SAD, but fewer studies have examined neural activity during anticipation of feared social stimuli in SAD. The current study examined the time course and magnitude of activity in threat processing brain regions during speech anticipation in socially anxious individuals and healthy controls (HC). Method Participants (SAD n = 58; HC n = 16) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during which they completed a 90s control anticipation task and 90s speech anticipation task.

“…This feature has been documented in only one report of twins with congenital hyperthyroidism associated with ventriculomegaly and cerebral atrophy revealed by computed tomography; however, these abnormalities associated with mental delay were thought to be caused by brain maldevelopment in utero due to maternal hyperthyroidism 12. Pseudotumour cerebri (benign intracranial hypertension) occurs in association with a variety of endocrine and metabolic disorders including hypothroidism and hyperthyroidism, but cranial computed tomography usually shows normal sized ventricles, and funduscopic examination shows papilloedema on 13-15.…”

“…Transitory delays in speech development have also been reported (3,26). Psychological assessment should focus on cognitive and language areas, because deficits in these may be missed by routine screening tests (32). The third child presented with a persistent severe psychomotor delay due to severe intrauterine growth retardation and poor nutrition.…”
