The comfort of passengers is one of the most significant advances in modern passenger transport. Despite its subjectivity, it could be related to the lateral accelerations on horizontal curves. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between passengers' comfort and lateral acceleration in two-lane rural mountain roads. Real-vehicle experiments were performed with 58 passengers on one road in the Ecuadorian Andes. They explored the influence of age, sex, level of stress, level of physical pain, speed, and lateral acceleration on passenger comfort. Two instruments were employed to collect data: a survey conducted to the passengers and a precise GPS device. In the survey, the passengers selected their comfort or discomfort within the curve. The GPS collected the vehicle speed, lateral accelerations and, its trajectory. As a result, it calibrated two models using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the factors: comfort values, stress level and lateral acceleration. Besides, it calibrated six models using linear regression with several thresholds of speed. Differences were found between right and left curves, which had not been detected by previous researchers. The research suggests thresholds of lateral acceleration in mountain roads in a Latin American country that would improve their design for better performance and safety.

The purpose of the research is formation of passenger transport policy by public transport from the standpoint of determining the level of safety in COVID-19 and passenger comfort with the development of basics for measuring the perception of the most important factors of public transport convenience, minimum discomfort and maximum safety. Methodology. The study was conducted in two stages - inhouse and experimental - the collection and processing of data obtained from the survey of passenger flows. Continuous field research by the tabular method which in comparison with the existing ones is the most time-consuming, but the only one that can provide maximum accuracy of passenger information for further processing of the obtained statistical data of the studied system of public transport. The information obtained by organoleptic means was entered for further processing in the special accounting map, then calculations were performed for traffic areas between the stopping points of each studied route. Findings. The results of field research using the model of discomfort allow us to correctly predict the choice of mode of transport and the behaviour of passengers when using public transport in medium-sized cities. It is proved that the artificial underloading of the vehicle to avoid tight contact of passengers does not affect the level of infection with the virus of COVID-19 and, therefore, this restriction is not appropriate. Conclusions. Formation of the strategy of passengers' transportation in the conditions of COVID-19 is possible only with the use of the characteristic indicators of the transportation of people established by the multi-criteria analysis of a transport network - the level of discomfort, vehicle filling factor, the average time of transportation, the average distance of transportation. It is obligatory to use such means of protection as masks and gloves, provide the enhanced ventilation of the salon, and organize passengers' boarding through the back door with 100 % contactless fare payment.

Basic Background: The three-wheelers (auto rickshaw) are predominantly being used as a mean of transportation of goods in industries and local transportation in cities and suburban areas of northern India. This study aims to assess the whole body vibration exposure and prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders among auto rickshaw drivers. Procedure and Methods:The study included four models of auto rickshaws for assessment of whole body vibration exposure with different road conditions and the number of passengers boarded and its association with musculoskeletal complaints. Whole body vibration exposure was measured using SVAN 106 tri-axial accelerometer and SVANPC+ software. A comprehensive questionnaire was devised and used for the subjective assessment of musculoskeletal complaints. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Chi-Square test to check the variability and association of whole body vibration exposure and musculoskeletal disorders for all the models of auto rickshaws.Results: There is a significant dependency of the magnitude of whole body vibration exposure on the road conditions and a number of passengers. Also, there is a significant influence ('p' value < 0.05) of whole body vibration exposure due to driving experience and age of auto rickshaw drivers on musculoskeletal complaints, low back pain is found more prominent factor. Conclusions:The auto rickshaw drivers are working at high exposure to WBV and consequently at high risk of musculoskeletal disorders, therefore it is recommended that auto-rickshaw drivers must adjust the vehicle speed to suit the road conditions to avoid excessive bumping and jolting. In rough road conditions less number of passengers should be avoided.
