“…One common postdecannulation finding is cannula-associated deep vein thrombosis and cannula-associated fibrin sheaths. [7][8][9] Cannula-associated deep vein thrombosis is different from cannula-associated fibrin sheath and clinically is a more relevant finding due to the risk of embolization likely being much higher than with fibrin sheaths. Fibrin casts are not unique to ECMO cannulae and can be associated with the routine placement of central lines, with implanted cardiac devices (and subsequently noted after removal), and with larger-bore interventional radiology-associated catheters.…”
