RESUMO Objetivo: avaliar dados epidemiológicos dos pacientes operados por trauma vascular em hospital de referência para traumatismos vasculares do Estado do Pará, determinar as variáveis que aumentam o risco de óbito e fazer uma análise comparativa com os resultados previamente publicados pela mesma instituição. Métodos: estudo retrospectivo analítico realizado através da coleta de dados de pacientes operados por lesões vasculares, entre março de 2013 e março de 2017. Foram analisados dados demográficos e epidemiológicos, como o mecanismo e topografia da lesão, distância entre o local do trauma e o hospital, tipo de tratamento e complicações. Foi feito ainda o estudo de uma matriz de correlação com regressão logística entre as variáveis e a ocorrência de óbito. Resultados: foram estudados 288 pacientes, com 430 lesões; 92,7% era do sexo masculino, 49,7% entre 25 e 49 anos de idade; 47,2% das lesões foi ocasionada por projéteis de arma de fogo; 47,2% das lesões situava-se nos membros superiores, 42,7% nos membros inferiores, 8% em região cervical, 3,1% torácicas e 0,7% abdominais; 52,8% dos pacientes teve hospitalização por sete dias ou menos. Amputação foi necessária em 6,9% e a mortalidade foi 7,93%. Conclusão: distâncias superiores a 200km foram associadas à internação prolongada e maior probabilidade de amputação de membros. Foi encontrada correlação significativa entre a ocorrência de óbito e o fato de haver lesão arterial, lesão vascular na topografia cervical e lesão vascular na topografia torácica.

Introduction: Blunt injury in the abdomen is seen more commonly because of rapid industrialization and increased number of vehicles ultimately leading to more number of accidents. It can occur as a result of fall from height, assault with blunt objects, sports injuries, and bomb blasts. In majority of the cases, blunt injury was the cause of death. In criminal violence, blunt injuries lead to death and more of forensic importance. The aim of the present study was to make a pattern of blunt abdominal injuries, which were fatal and resulted in death. Material and methods: A total of 160 cases of deaths from blunt abdominal trauma from 1 st July 2011 to 30th June 2013 were included in the study. Demographic details about age, gender, occupation brief facts of the cases collected from the inquest report were entered. Patterns of death and types of injuries were studied and the data was collected through a predesigned format. Results: The most common age group affected with blunt abdominal injuries was 20-40 years followed by above 40 years and below 20 years. The main cause of injury was found to be due to road accidents. The most common organ involved in blunt injury of abdomen was liver followed by intestine and spleen. The mechanism of death was found to be due to hemorrhage. Conclusion: Injury to abdomen is considered to be the most common reason for morbidity and mortality among the general population.

BACKGROUND The objectives of this study are 1. To analyse the deaths due to blunt injury abdomen brought to the mortuary 2. To make a comprehensive and detailed study to recognize the pattern of injuries to the abdominal viscera commonly involved as a result of blunt trauma. MATERIALS AND METHODS This is an analytical study of deaths due to blunt injury abdomen at King George Hospital Mortuary, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh from January 2011 to December 2011. RESULTS During the calendar year of 2011, 1670 cases were reported, of which 63 cases were deaths due to blunt injury abdomen. Blunt injury abdomen cases accounted for 3.77% of total autopsies. Majority of the victims are males accounting for 87% (n=55 cases) and females representing 13%. Individuals in 21-30 years age group are more prone. Road traffic accidents are the main cause of blunt injury abdomen deaths, accounting for 67%. Other factors like time of incident, period of survival, abdominal visceral organ involvement, association with other systemic injuries were also ascertained. CONCLUSION Majority of the victims were males. Young and active population was mostly affected. Daytime incidents are common. Road traffic accidents played major role. External visible injuries were present in 68% of cases. Majority of cases succumbed to death within six hours. Most commonly affected visceral organ was liver. Death due to haemorrhagic shock was commonest cause of death.
