Dammarane triterpenes from the resins of Commiphora confusa

Abstract: ABSTRACT. The resin of Commiphora confusa afforded two new dammarane triterpenes, (3R,20S)-3,20-dihydroxydammar-24-ene and (3R,20S)-3-acetoxy-20-hydroxydammar-24-ene along with the known triterpenes, cabraleadiol 3-acetate and a-amyrin.

“…S3). Dammarane triterpenoids constitute the biggest group of Commiphora triterpenoids, and more than twenty-one dammarane triterpenoids have been found in the resins of four Commiphora species, including C. kua (Dekebo et al, 2002b;Manguro et al, 2003a), C. dalzieli (Waterman and Ampofo, 1985), C. confuse (Dekebo et al, 2002b;Manguro et al, 2003b) and C. myrrha (Shen et al, 2009). Polypodane triterpenoids from this genus are only discovered in the species of C. mukul (Kimura et al, 2001;Matsuda et al, 2004a,b).…”

“…Additionally, the cytotoxicity of nordammarane triterpenes, such as vibusambucin A, 12β-hydroxy-3,15-dioxo-20,21,22-23,24,25,26,27octanordammarane, and hupehenol A against KB, HepG-2, LU-1, and MCF-7 cell lines has been reported [16]. The resins of C. confusa contain triterpenes of the dammarane type [17] with moderate cytotoxic activity against HepG2 [18]. From the resin of C. erlangeriana we have previously isolated polygamain-type lignans named erlangerin A, and erlangerin B, and two lignans related to podophyllotoxin, erlangerin C, and erlangerin D [19].…”
