To the extent that neuronal changes produced by our short-term stimulations corroborate findings based on the more intense noise exposures of other studies, we can begin to identify the cellular mechanisms underlying the well-documented transition from temporary to permanent noise-induced hearing loss under conditions of repetitive overstimulation (7).…”
