Acute physical exercise and repeated exercise stimuli affect whole-body metabolic and immunologic homeostasis. The aim of this study was to determine plasma protein profiles of trained (EET, = 19) and untrained (SED, = 17) individuals at rest and in response to an acute bout of endurance exercise. Participants completed a bicycle exercise test at an intensity corresponding to 80% of their VO 2max . Plasma samples were taken before, directly after, and three hours after exercise and analyzed using multiplex immunoassays. Seventy-eight plasma variables were included in the final analysis. Twenty-nine variables displayed significant acute exercise effects in both groups. Seven proteins differed between groups, without being affected by acute exercise. Among these A2Macro and IL-5 were higher in EET individuals while leptin showed elevated levels in SED individuals. Fifteen variables revealed group and time differences with elevated levels for IL-3, IL-7, IL-10, and TNFR2 in EET individuals. An interaction effect could be observed for nine variables including IL-6, MMP-2, MMP-3, and muscle damage markers. The proteins that differ between groups indicate a long-term exercise effect on plasma protein concentrations. These findings might be of importance in the development of exercise-based strategies in the prevention and therapy of chronic metabolic and inflammatory diseases and for training monitoring.

Cancer cachexia remains a serious public health concern worldwide, particularly as cancer rates rise. Treatment is endangered, and survival is reduced, because this illness is commonly misdiagnosed and undertreated. Although weight loss is the most evident sign of cachexia, there are other early metabolic and inflammatory changes that occur before the most obvious symptoms appear. Cachexia-related inflammation is induced by a combination of factors, one of which is the release of inflammation-promoting chemicals by the tumor. Today, more scientists are beginning to believe that the development of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) related cachexia is similar to cancer-related cachexia. It is worth noting that patients infected with COVID-19 have a significant inflammatory response and can develop cachexia. These correlations provide feasible reasons for the variance in the occurrence and severity of cachexia in human malignancies, therefore, specific therapeutic options for these individuals must be addressed based on disease types. In this review, we highlighted the role of key chemokines, cytokines, and clinical management in relation to cancer cachexia and its long-term impact on COVID-19 patients.

The book "Mechanosensitivity in Cells and Tissues: Mechanical Stretch and Cytokines" edited by Andre Kamkin and Irina Kiseleva impressively demonstrates the diversity of cellular effects of cytokines depending on mechanical stimuli. Clinical and fundamental investigation of biological effects of cytokines in regulation of functioning of cells, tissues and organs is a relatively new, interesting and fast growing field, which draws a lot of attention recently. A proposed link between cytokines, their production and mechanisms of action, and their impact on effects of cellular and tissue stretch given a new momentum to this field. The role of cytokines as regulators of stretch related mechanisms is of special importance since mechanosensitivity plays an important role in a wide variety of biological processes. It is known that cytokines can be marked out as a new separate regulatory system which, along with nervous and endocrine systems, helps to maintain homeostasis, and these three systems are tightly interconnected and interdependent. Presently two major approaches to investigation of cytokines and mechanosensitivity exist. The first one focuses on the effects of interplay of mechanical stimulation of tissue or cells and cytokine production. The second approach investigates the influence of cytokines application on mechanosensitivity and mechanotransduction. This Volume is devoted to those two issues.To my knowledge Andre Kamkin and Irina Kiseleva present the first book on this topic, which consists of a collection of publications, written by leading scientists in this field, which guaranties that this Volume will remain of great interest to readers for a long period of time. Present book is devoted to discussion of the latest findings in the filled of cytokines and mechanical stretch of different tissues research. It is evident that the data, available on this topic is scarce, and this Volume is especially valuable, since its 10 Chapters provide a complete description of the modern vision of the field, which is rapidly developing. Volume begins with an overview of cytokines, addressed to those readers, who would like to get acquainted with this topic. In following Chapters authors summarize the recent findings about the cellular and molecular effect of mechanical stretch, which induce cytokine production in cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, vascular smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, lung and chondrocytes.
