CuS@MOF-Based Well-Designed Quercetin Delivery System for Chemo–Photothermal Therapy

Abstract: Quercetin (QT) is one promising candidate for the treatment of various cancers with virtually no toxic side effects. However, its anticancer effect is severely restricted by its poor bioavailability, low water solubility, and chemical instability in the neutral and alkaline medium. Herein, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) is first reported as the multifunctional nanoplatform to the codelivery of quercetin as an anticancer agent and CuS nanoparticles as a photothermal therapy (PTT) agent for synergistic… Show more

“…The nanomaterial also had good targeting properties. In addition, as an active targeting agent, folic acid−Bovine serum albumin (FA−BSA) was modified on ZIF-8, which was also loaded with CuS and quercetin ( Figure 4) [90]. The nano-platform can actively transport the photothermal agent and the chemotherapeutic drug to the cancer tissue.…”

“…It exerts various biological effects including antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-aggregatory, anti-aging effects (Iskender et al, 2017). Que is non-toxic and safe to animals, even at high doses (4000 mg/day), which makes it safe for dietary intake (Jiang et al, 2018). Indeed, Que has been used as a drugstore medicine in certain countries.…”

“…35 Advantages of using nanoparticles including the delivery of drugs and genes into various specific sites of the body could result in longer shelf-life of the drug at the target site, and improvement of intracellular absorption, and further, the stability of drugs has also been discussed. 8,[36][37][38] Furthermore, targeted drug delivery through nanoparticles provides a new therapeutic approach, in which a drug that has been administered through intravenous or oral routes acts effectively, with lower side effects in the patient. [39][40][41][42] Nanohydrogels have shown different characteristics, making them an excellent vehicle for the delivery of therapeutic agents.…”
