Curriculum Evaluation Using Path Analysis

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to explore the application of path analysis to evaluate the curriculum model and provide guidance in course sequencing. Using statistical package R to add and subtract various path connections, the curriculum model was improved to a proposed curriculum model, which passed the exact-fit test (χ42 = 45.612, with P = .286 > .05). Path analysis provided an objective method to evaluate the curriculum model and course sequencing in the baccalaureate program under study, while informing … Show more

“…The goal of path analysis is to estimate the magnitude and significance of hypothesized association between sets of variables as depicted in a path diagram. 29 30 Therefore, we used path analysis to analyze the data because it was completely consistent with the purpose of the study. The relevant indices were calculated in the analysis, including the ratio of chi-square to the degree of freedom (χ 2 /df), the goodness-of-fit index (GFI), the comparative fit index (CFI), and the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA).…”

“…In this research, path analysis was used for statistical analysis. The purpose of path analysis is to estimate the significance of hypothesized correlations among variables in a path model [ 23 ]. The study design of this research was based on Erikson’s theory, the ego development stages were influenced by the previous stages consequently, and the purpose of the research was to investigate the elderly adults with the eighth stage (integrity versus despair).…”

“…A number of strategies can be employed to perform the evaluation of the medical curriculum, ranging from obtaining feedback from medical students at the end of each professional phase to assessing content, teaching methods, assessment, and attainment of learning outcomes. [ 7 8 9 ] We can also carry out need assessment either with the help of surveys or interviews to ascertain the gaps that are present, and this will indirectly also help in the identification of training needs. [ 10 ] These planned surveys or interviews can target different stakeholders and obtain feedback on different aspects of the implemented curriculum either at the end of each professional phase or upon the completion of the entire training (exit interviews).…”

“…[ 4 ] In continuation, we can also conduct external reviews from external bodies or accreditation agencies to ensure compliance with national standards. [ 4 7 ] An indirect way to assess student engagement and progress can be done by analyzing the learning management system, if available. For specific skills (like clinical decision making, teamwork, and problem-solving skills, etc.…”
