Abstract: This paper discusses current networked-based language teaching (NBLT) practices and considers the dif®culties of employing them in a non-Western cultural context. After outlining the reported bene®ts of NBLT, three areas of cultural sensitivity are highlighted. In order to illustrate these points, the use of electronic open-mediums at a technologically advanced allfemale Middle Eastern university is discussed.
