Abstract: The crystalline structure of mangiferin (¼ 2-b-d-glucopyranosyl-1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxy-9H-xanthen-9-one; 1), a biologically active xanthenone C-glycoside, isolated from the stem bark of Mangifera indica (Anacardiaceae), was unambiguously determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD). The crystal structure is summarized as follows:, and Z ¼ 2. The structure also shows two molecules in the asymmetric unit cell and five crystallization H 2 O molecules. The packing is stabilized by several intermolecular H-bo… Show more

“…Within this context, our previous articles reported the isolation and structural studies by XRD of a prenylated xanthone derivative named 6-deoxyjacareubin [8] and a glycosylated one well known as mangiferin [9]. In this article, we study a series of four simple oxygenated xanthones: the 1-hydroxixanthone (I), 1-hydroxy-7-methoxyxanthone (II), 1,5-dihydroxy-3-methoxyxanthone (III), and 1,7-dihydroxy-3,8-dimethoxyxanthone (IV).…”

“…This can be highlighted in a simple search on Cambridge Structural Database (CSD [6] Despite the many studies about the biological activities of xanthone derivatives in the literature [4], there are few reports dealing with its properties in the solid state. Therefore, as part of our ongoing effort to investigate natural products with novel structures and biological activities from Brazilian medicinal plants [1,2,[7][8][9][10], in this article, we study a series of mono-, di-, tri-, and tetraoxygenated xanthones (Scheme 1).…”

“…), after extensive spectroscopic and degradation investigations . Only until the early 2000s, its full NMR assignment and X‐ray diffraction analysis were reported, confirming the 2‐ C ‐glycosidic bond between a glucose unit and the 1,3,6,7‐tetrahydroxyxanthone aglycone .…”

“…The purity of the compound obtained in this manner was approximately 97.39%. daCruz et al have reported singlecrystal X-ray structure of mangiferin isolated and recrystallized from EtOH and water mixture [38]. Nunez Selles et al [39] isolated several phenolic compounds from an aqueous decoction of the stem bark of Mangifera indica, including mangiferin which is the principal active compound amongst them.…”
