The genus Moringa Adans. comprises 13 species, of which Moringa oleifera Lam. native to India and cultivated across the world owing to its drought and frost resistance habit is widely used in traditional phytomedicine and as rich source of essential nutrients. Wide spectrum of phytochemical ingredients among leaf, flower, fruit, seed, seed oil, bark, and root depend on cultivar, season, and locality. The scientific studies provide insights on the use of M. oleifera with different aqueous, hydroalcoholic, alcoholic, and other organic solvent preparations of different parts for therapeutic activities, that is, antibiocidal, antitumor, antioxidant, anti‐inflammatory, cardio‐protective, hepato‐protective, neuro‐protective, tissue‐protective, and other biological activities with a high degree of safety. A wide variety of alkaloid and sterol, polyphenols and phenolic acids, fatty acids, flavanoids and flavanol glycosides, glucosinolate and isothiocyanate, terpene, anthocyanins etc. are believed to be responsible for the pragmatic effects. Seeds are used with a view of low‐cost biosorbent and coagulant agent for the removal of metals and microbial contamination from waste water. Thus, the present review explores the use of M. oleifera across disciplines for its prominent bioactive ingredients, nutraceutical, therapeutic uses and deals with agricultural, veterinarian, biosorbent, coagulation, biodiesel, and other industrial properties of this “Miracle Tree.”

A large range of ingredients for food and food products are subject to fungal contamination, which is a major cause of destruction of crops, exposure of animals and humans to invasive mycotoxins, and food spoilage. The resistance of fungal species to common preservation methods highlights the necessity of new ways to increase the shelf life of raw material for food and food products. Antimicrobial peptides and proteins (AMPs) are essential members of the immune system of most living organisms. Due to their broad range of activity and their stability to commonly used food processes, they represent promising alternatives to traditional preservatives. However, despite the growing number of reports of potential food applications of these AMPs, the number of approved peptides is low. Poor solubility, toxicity, and a time‐consuming extraction are hurdles that limit their application in food products. Thanks to a deep understanding of the key determinants of their activity, the development of optimized synthetic peptides has reduced these drawbacks. This review presents natural and synthetic antifungal peptides/proteins (AFPs), effective against food‐related fungi, with particular emphasis on AFPs from plant sources. The design of novel antifungal peptides via key elements of antifungal activity is also reviewed. The potential applications of natural and synthetic AFPs as novel antifungal food preservatives are finally discussed.

Resumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar agentes extrativos para proteínas das sementes de moringa (Moringa oleifera) e a ação coagulante desse extrato proteico sobre o caldo de cana para produção de açúcar, que utiliza polieletrólitos de acrilamida. Os extratores foram água deionizada, solução de KCl e MgCl 2 , a 0,1, 0,5, 1,0, 1,5 e 2,0 mol L , resulta em caldo clarificado de melhores características químico-tecnológicas.Termos para indexação: Moringa oleifera, acrilamida, bioenergia, calagem simples, polieletrólito sintético. Extract of moringa seeds as sugarcane juice flocculantAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate extractive agents for proteins of moringa (Moringa oleifera) seeds, and the coagulant effect of this protein extract on sugarcane juice for sugar production, which uses acrylamide polyelectrolytes. The extractors were deionized water, and KCl and MgCl 2 solution at 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, and 2.0 mol L , results in clarified juice with better chemical-technological characteristics.
