ResumoTeor lipídico da microalga marinha Chaetoceros muelleri Lemmermann (Bacillariophyceae) cultivada em diferentes salinidades. A produção e armazenamento de lipídios por microalgas em resposta a variações nos fatores ambientais são específicos para cada espécie de microalga. O presente trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar o crescimento e a concentração de lipídios totais da microalga Chaetoceros muelleri cultivada em três diferentes salinidades (15, 25 e 35). O experimento foi realizado em triplicatas, utilizando frascos de nove litros com volumes úteis de 7 L, sendo cultivo do tipo estacionário ou "batch". A temperatura da sala de cultivo e a intensidade luminosa foram mantidas em 28±1ºC e 20 μ.mol.m -2 .s -1 , respectivamente. Os resultados mostraram que no presente trabalho, o rendimento lipídico (10,41±1,89, 10,87±2,10, 12,33±1,81% nas salinidades 15, 25 e 35, respectivamente) não foi influenciado pela concentração salina (p>0,05). No entanto, a concentração celular máxima sofreu esta influência e foi significativamente maior (p<0,05) nas salinidades de 15 e 25 as quais obtiveram 16,3±1,50 e 17,6±2,90 x 10 5 cel.mL -1 , respectivamente. The present study aimed to evaluate the growth and concentration of total lipids of the microalga C. muelleri Lemmermann cultivated at three different salinities (15, 25 and 35). The experiment was conducted in triplicate, using 9-L containers (7-L working volume), with the culture being stationary or batch type. The temperature and light intensity of the cultivation room was kept at 28±1ºC and 20 μ.mol.

The residual water from intensive aquaculture production systems can be utilized in integrated multitrophic cultivations. In this work, Artemia franciscana received daily feedings of 10 mg L À1 of Tetraselmis chuii, Nannochloropsis oculata and Chaetoceros muelleri, which were grown using residual water from an intensive biofloc Litopenaeus vannamei cultivation system. The goal of this study was to verify which species provide the best zootechnical performance and best crustacean biomass production efficiency. After 12 days of cultivation, A. franciscana wet biomass was 815.64 AE 18.74, 650.81 AE 83.98 and 40.76 AE 4.08 mg L À1 with C. muelleri, T. chuii and N. oculata (P < 0.05), with significant differences in dried biomass as well. As for the microalgae cultivation in the alternative culture medium, T. chuii had higher dry biomass gain, requiring less culture volume to achieve 10 mg L À1 and become ready to feed Artemia. Thus, T. chuii was the most efficient in Artemia biomass production with 0.83 L compared to 1.54 L g art À1 in C. muelleri. C. muelleri is recommended for feeding A. franciscana for biomass production purposes. However, due to its better efficiency, T. chuii can be selected to be part of a multitrophic system.

To describe potential intraspecifi c variation in phosphorus incorporation in two strains of Phaeodactylum tricornutum (Bohlin), Ub3 and Ub7, alkaline phosphatase (AP) activity was evaluated via enzyme-labeled fl uorescence assay. Analysis using the probe ELF-97 ® provides individual evaluation, and therefore can determine the nutritional status of inorganic phosphorus in phytoplanktonic cells. Bioassays compared the control treatment to both phosphateenriched and phosphate-depleted treatments by varying only the phosphate concentration in the media. Th e P. tricornutum strains exhibited diff erences in their development when incubated in the phosphate-enriched media. Th e development of the Ub7 strain diff ered by exhibiting "luxury uptake" and utilization of organic phosphorus, and the alkaline phosphatase analysis indicated limitations of this clone under such conditions. Th e Ub7 strain showed higher AP activity, when compared to Ub3, in the P-enriched condition. P. tricornutum presented increases in AP activity and low variation in Surface/Volume ratio, by increasing biovolume and its maximum linear dimension, as strategies for phosphate incorporation. Our results highlight intraspecifi c diff erences in alkaline phosphatase activity, and hence diff erences in the incorporation of organic phosphorus, as the tested species regulated enzymatic activity under diff erent external phosphate concentrations.
