Abstract: Abstract The coupling of smooth pervaporation across microporous (PTFE and polypropylene) and nonmicroporous (silicone) membranes to alcoholic fermentation on cane molasses has been investigated as a means to limit the inhibition by ethanol. The use of liquid and gaseous carriers has been examined. Best results in terms of productivity improvement were obtained with the microporous membranes at high carrier flow rates.
