“…Elinos-Báez et al reported that 7-hydroxycoumarin inhibits anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 expression in lung cancer cells and promotes the expression of pro-apoptotic Bcl-2-associated X protein (Bax) (8). Other studies identified that coumarin is able to induce cervical and colon cancer cell apoptosis by activating the mitochondrial pathway and the caspase-3-dependent apoptotic pathway, to downregulate the anti-apoptotic NF-κB, Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL, and upregulate caspase-3 to promote the release of cytochrome (cyt) c (9,10). The coumarin derivative psoralidin is also able to enhance the role of tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL) in promoting the apoptosis and necrosis of HeLa cervical cancer cells (11).…”

“…The animal studies revealed that expressions of NF-κB, TNF-α, Stat3, NF-E2 related factor 2, IL-2, IL-1β were found to be low which were otherwise induced in the adenocarcinoma. Saidu et al (2012) investigated the novel compounds dicoumarin polysulphides for their anticancer action in HCT116 colon cancer cells. The study suggested that coumarin tetrasulphides showed best activity by accumulating the cells in G2/M phase that finally underwent apoptosis through intrinsic pathway.…”

“…Among all these versatile biological activities, coumarins are notably accounted for their anticancer activities . There are innumerable pathways wherein coumarin triggers the cancer such as cell cycle arrest, angiogenesis inhibition, kinase inhibition, telomerase inhibition, antimitotic activity, monocarboxylate transporters inhibition, carbonic anhydrase inhibition, aromatase inhibition and sulfatase inhibition . Daphnetin, one of the coumarin derivative was found to inhibit protein kinase specifically EGF receptor including cAMP dependent protein kinase (PKA) and protein kinase C (PKC) .…”
