COSMOLOGICAL-MODEL-INDEPENDENT TESTS FOR THE DISTANCE–DUALITY RELATION FROM GALAXY CLUSTERS AND TYPE Ia SUPERNOVA

Abstract: We perform a cosmological-model-independent test for the distance-duality (DD) relation η(z) = D L (z)(1 + z) −2 /D A (z), where D L and D A are the luminosity distance and angular diameter distance respectively, with a combination of observational data for D L taken from the latest Union2 SNe Ia and that for D A provided by two galaxy clusters samples compiled by De Filippis et al. and Bonamente et al.. Two parameterizations for η(z), i.e., η(z) = 1 + η 0 z and η(z) = 1 + η 0 z/(1 + z), are used. We find that… Show more

“…In this context, we recall that Li et al (2011) rediscussed this independent cosmological test using the latest Union2 SNe Ia data and the angular diameter distances from galaxy clusters. However, they removed six and twelve data points, respectively, from the De Filippis et al (2005) and Bonamente et al (2006) samples and obtained a more serious violation of the DD relation.…”

“…Therefore, their results just satisfy the DD relation at 2σ CL for elliptical model. In subsequent papers, Li et al [18] and Meng et al [19] obtained the conclusion that DD relation can be accommodated at the 1σ CL for the elliptical model. In short, these cosmological model-independent tests suggest that the deviation of η from 1 is minor.…”

“…2) and there are generally two ways to test it's validity. The first way to constrain η is to combine the observed results of D L and D A both from observations [14,[17][18][19]. This method is popular because it is cosmological model-independent.…”
