A systematic review on this topic noted a number needed to treat (NNT) of 13 and indicated that longer courses and higher doses had greater effect 108 . Guaifenesin (an expectorant) and dextromethorphan (a cough suppressant) are often used for symptomatic relief of VRS symptoms, but evidence of clinical efficacy is lacking and decisions regarding their use are largely related to patient and provider preference.…”
