“…The caudate nucleus seems to be involved in migraine attacks (21) and chronification (22) because this nucleus receives sensory input from the trigeminovascular neurons (7,23). Compared to low frequency migraineurs, high frequency migraineurs have differences in caudate functional connectivity and morphology (22).…”

“…The caudate nucleus, as part of a prefrontal‐striatal‐thalamic circuit, plays a central role in cognitive processes, particularly executive functions, emotion and behaviour (Grahn et al., ; Foerde and Shohamy, ). Moreover, it is known that the caudate nucleus is involved in pain processing (Schweinhardt et al., ; Seghatoleslam et al., ). We speculated that the decreased volumes in the caudate nucleus could lead to disturb sensory pathways and might bias PDM subjects towards unpleasant or painful perceptions from the viscera.…”

“…The caudate nucleus is a part of basal ganglia and is related to motor tasks and may contribute to pain as well as changes in cognition and behavior in patients with migraine 56. The acute EP patients in our study showed lower GMV values in the left caudate, which indicates caudate dysfunction.…”
