Correspondence between the latitudinal ULF wave power distribution and auroral oval in conjugate ionospheres

Abstract: Abstract. We examine the Pc5 wave power latitudinal distribution in the morning sector along the conjugate magnetometer arrays in Greenland and Antarctica. These distributions are compared with the location of the auroral oval, reconstructed using the OVATION-prime model. This model makes it possible to reconstruct separately the spatial structures of diffuse and monoenergetic precipitation of auroral electrons. Mapping of the spectral power of narrowband Pc5 waves onto the auroral oval has shown that the wave… Show more

“…DTU data are obtained from the public Tromsø Geophysical Observatory website (http://flux.phys.uit.no/geomag.html), while AAL‐PIP data are obtained from the public Magnetosphere‐Ionosphere Science Team (MIST) website (mist.nianet.org). AAL‐PIP data have been used to investigate interhemispheric asymmetries in ground‐ and space‐located magnetic perturbations (Hartinger et al, , ; Martines‐Bedenko et al, ; Xu et al, ).…”

“…(1964). Many studies have been conducted on the properties of ULF waves at high latitudes (Constantinescu et al., 2009; Martines‐Bedenko et al., 2018; V. Pilipenko et al., 2015; V. A. Pilipenko et al., 2019; Simms et al., 2006) in order to characterize their behavior. Furthermore, much has been published on the mechanisms that drive ULF waves in the magnetosphere (Anderson, 1993; Takahashi et al., 2021; Turc et al., 2022).…”
