Abstract: The stratigraphy and correlation of Middle and Upper Turonian hardgrounds developed around the margins of the Anglo-Paris Basin in southern England (Chalk Rock) and Normandy (Tilleul Hardgrounds) are reassessed using microcrinoid stratigraphy. The Chalk Rock was formed by two, discrete events-an earlier, erosional or non-depositional hiatus that cuts out much of the Middle Turonian in Dorset and Wiltshire (Ogbourne Hardground) and extends across the English Channel to Normandy as the Tilleul Hardgrounds, and a… Show more

“…This was done by identifying key marker beds and biostratigraphy. The stratigraphy is based on sections exposed along the Normandy coast, and from inland sections and shown on geological maps (Quince & Bosence, 1991;Juignet and Breton, 1992;Van Lint et al, 2003;Hoyez, 2008;Quesnel et al, 2008;Lasseur et al, 2009;Mortimore, 2011Mortimore, , 2019Gale, 2019). Additional data was derived from more detailed, targeted geological mapping of the area and detailed section logging at key sites including within the caves.…”

Tampa, FL (USA) September 2020 middle Turonian chalks (Juignet & Breton, 1992;Lasseur et al, 2009;Gale, 2019), with a further thirty hardgrounds in the upper Turonian to lower Campanian chalks (Hoyez, 2008). Fewer hardgrounds occur in more basinal Chalk sequences further north and east, and across the English Channel in southeastern England.…”
