This centripetal migration or distribution has occurred possibly because of the centripetal migration of the normal epithelium from the limbus to the central cornea as described in the XYZ hypothesis of corneal maintenance proposed by Thoft et al [12]. This kind of centripetal distribution or migration of the lesions to the central cornea is more desquamatory in appearance and has also caused deterioration of vision after initial relief of the symptoms.…”

In other words, the XYZ hypothesis posits that the cornea is in a steady state with a constant but nonzero flux of cells from the limbus inward to the tip of the cornea.…”
