Abstract: The tropical ginger genus Amomum (Zingiberaceae) has always posed challenges for classification based on morphological characters. Previous molecular phylogenetic studies showed Amomum to be paraphyletic but limited sampling and absence of the data of the type Amomum subulatum made it impossible to resolve the paraphyly and make nomenclatural changes. Here, Amomum is further investigated in a multi–marker phylogenetic framework using matK and nrITS including multiple accessions of the type, the genus Elettaria… Show more

“…The ITS region yielded the highest number of parsimony-informative characters with 32.93% (244 out of 741 bp), while the trnK/matK region obtained 9.54% (304 out of 3186 bp). These results are consistent with earlier reports for the tribe Alpinieae (e.g., Kress & al., 2007;de Boer & al., 2018;.…”

“…The ML and BI majority-rule consensus tree topologies are consistent to each other and with those obtained from previous studies (e.g., Kress & al., , 2007de Boer & al., 2018;. The six clades of Alpinia inside the tribe Alpinieae recognized in the latter papers are well represented here, and these clades are moderately to strongly supported with BS ranging from 70% to 100% and posterior probability (PP) values of 0.98-1.00 (Fig.…”

“…A study focusing on Amomum (De Boer & al., 2018) included three species of Elettaria, namely the type, E. cardamomum which appeared distant from E. longituba and E. longipilosa S.Sakai & Nagam. in a molecular-based analysis.…”

“…The family has a pan-tropical distribution, with its centre of diversity in the Malesian biogeographic region Larsen 2005). In Borneo, the gingers display great diversity and are separated into 23 genera with nearly 270 described taxa (Lamb et al 2013;Ooi et al 2017;de Boer et al 2018).…”
