Control of acetolactate synthase inhibitor/glyphosate-resistant Palmer amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) in isoxaflutole/glufosinate/glyphosate-resistant soybean

Abstract: Palmer amaranth is the most problematic and troublesome weed in agronomic cropping systems in the United States. Acetolactate synthase (ALS) inhibitor- and glyphosate-resistant (GR) Palmer amaranth has been confirmed in Nebraska and it is widespread in several counties. Soybean resistant to isoxaflutole/glufosinate/glyphosate has been developed that provides additional herbicide site of action for control of herbicide-resistant weeds. The objectives of this study were to evaluate herbicide programs for control… Show more

“…In crops such as corn, a major contributor to diversifying herbicide SOAs can be attributed to commonly used PRE and POST herbicides being premixes of different SOAs (Table 6). Similarly in soybean, use of a PRE herbicide with multiple effective SOAs is required as a foundation for the early season management of multiple herbicide‐resistant Palmer amaranth (Mausbach et al., 2021).…”

“…It is a selective herbicide primarily used for PRE control of grass and broadleaf weeds in corn, and recently in isoxaflutole-resistant soybean (Mausbach et al 2021). Isoxaflutole is commonly mixed with PS II-inhibiting herbicides (e.g., atrazine) to improve weed control efficacy and spectrum (Benoit et al 2019;Fluttert et al 2022).…”

“…Siehl et al (2014) developed transgenic soybean that is resistant to isoxaflutole, mesotrione, and tembotrione with increased selectivity and a wide spectrum of weed control. In addition, isoxaflutole-resistant soybean has been developed and is available for commercial cultivation in the United States; however, its adoption is limited due to restriction in use of isoxaflutole (Alite 27) in certain counties in states such as Nebraska (Mausbach et al 2021).…”
