Contributions of the nurse in the prenatal monitoring of high-risk in secondary care

Abstract

There are still attributions that are not listed by law, nor by regulations or institutional protocols regarding the role of nurses in the obstetric area in secondary care The objective was to identify the attributions of nurses regarding high-risk prenatal care in secondary care. Qualitative study carried out in 2021, in a secondary level institution belonging to the health care network in the State of Ceará, Brazil, with the participation of three professionals from the institution through semi-structured interviews. With information organized through thematic content analysis, it was identified that the nurse performs functions far from assistance, as he does not perform nursing consultations with high-risk pregnant women, possibly related to the fact that there is no institutional protocol that guides the attributions of this professional . Respondents expressed a desire for the implementation of regulations and/or local protocol to improve care for pregnant women. In this context, the nursing consultation for pregnant women in secondary care is still little discussed and disseminated, with gaps in the legal support for this action.
