Contactless Resonant Cavity Dielectric Spectroscopic Studies of Cellulosic Paper Aging

Abstract: The current analytical techniques for characterizing printing and graphic arts substrates, particularly those used to date and authenticate provenance, are destructive. This limits the amount of data that can be captured from an individual sample. For samples being evaluated in forensic and archeological investigations, any loss or degradation of the materials is undesirable. Furthermore, it is difficult to produce statistically relevant data for such analytes. We have shown elsewhere that a contactless microw… Show more

“…LTCL provides easier sample preparation as phages and E. coli were co-incubated together, without additional step before filtration. This mode of sample preparation for the detection of target bacteria using phages has also been documented in several studies [7,21]. However, major drawbacks for LTCL were noticed as the relative insensitive detection limit at10 3 CFU/ml.…”

“…We suggest that non-contact BDS may be a better metrology for such a sensing application [31]. We have independently investigated and characterized cellulosic paper [32,33], which, when combined with metal oxides, could be suitable for costeffective microwave monitored gas sensing applications. From our experience, the paper substrate for metal oxide support must be carefully chosen for BDS monitoring.…”
