Consuming and producing linked open data: the case of OpenCourseWare

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present an initiative of application of the Linked Data principles to promote data interoperability between heterogeneous OpenCourseWare (OCW) repositories and to enhance the search and discovery of contents created and shared by the universities. Design/methodology/approach This paper is a case study of how Linked Data technologies can be applied for the enhancement of open learning contents. Findings Results presented under the umbrella of OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC) and OCW-… Show more

“…In this context, we opted to apply the principles of Linked Data (Heath & Bizer, 2011;Berners-Lee et al, 2001) to integrate, interoperate and mash up data from distributed and heterogeneous re positories of open educational materials. The purpose is to significantly improve discovery, accessibility, visibility, and promote reuse of open educational content in massive courses (Piedra, Tovar, Colomo-Palacios, López & Chicaiza, 2014).…”

“…In [20], authors apply the Linked Data Design Issues to explore, visualize and use information that is semantically related to open educational resources that are accessible via the OCW Consortium. Serendipity initiative has begun to adopt models that are suitable for expressing OCW and OER metadata as Linked Data, in an attempt to provide OER users with well understood/recognizable RDF data models.…”
