Conservative management of dentigerous cyst in children: Report of two clinical cases

Abstract: The dentigerous cyst is the second most common odontogenic. The prevalence rates ranging from 0.8% to 3.6% in the general population. It affects people especially at the second and third decade of life with a male predilection. It presents a preference for the mandibular region particularly for the second lower premolar. Surgical marsupialization or decompression are the most conservative treatment modalities as it prevents the risks of cyst removal as nerve injuries and preserves the unerupted tooth. Two clin… Show more

“…Age and stage of dental development appear to be predictive factors correlated with spontaneous dental eruption after marsupialization. Spontaneous eruption occurs at the beginning of the first decade and when root development is less than or equal to half of complete formation [14,15]. This finding could be partially explained by the greater potential for bone regeneration in younger individuals.…”

“…A dentigerous cyst (DC), also known as a follicular cyst, is an odontogenic cystic type with an epithelial lining connected to the cementoenamel junction associated with an unerupted tooth, preventing it from erupting and causing displacement to the inferior border [1]. It is the second-most frequent odontogenic cyst after radicular cyst and the most frequent developing cyst [2,3].…”
