Objective: To describe nurses' recommendations for good patient safety practices in the operating room. Method: Quantitative, descriptive and exploratory research developed from an online survey of 220 operating room nurses from different regions of Brazil. The data processing for textual analysis was performed by the software IRAMUTEQ. Results: There were eight recommendations: (1) Involvement of the multiprofessional team and the managers of the institution; (2) Establishment of a patient safety culture; (3) Use of the safe surgery checklist; (4) Improvement of interpersonal communication; (5) Expansion of nurses' performance; (6) Adequate availability of physical, material and human resources; (7) Individual search for professional updating; and (8) Development of continuing education actions. Conclusion: These recommendations can be used as care management strategies by nurses for patient safety in the operating room.

RECONSIDERING PATIENT SAFETY AT NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNITS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW ABSTRACT:The objective was to get to know adverse events and care practices for the purpose of patient safety at a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Systematic review using the following descriptors: Patient Safety; Intensive Care Units, Neonatal; Adverse events. Study developed between September 2015and February 2016. Eighty-four articles were found in three databases between 2006 and 2015. After applying the screening and eligibility criteria, nine articles were selected. The analysis of the articles revealed that adverse events take place at the Neonatal Intensive Care Units, which are attributed to different factors. The actions mentioned to prevent the adverse events were continuing education, training and an increasing number of professionals, support from management, knowledge strengthening and team commitment. In conclusion, the most noteworthy adverse events were related to medication, respiratory infections and non-programmed extubations. The main factors contributing to error were excessive workloads, lack of professionals and resources and an unfavorable work environment.

RESUMO Objetivo: compreender a cultura de segurança fundamentada nos conceitos discutidos na Teoria da Diversidade e Universalidade do Cuidado Cultural e no Modelo Conceitual do Cuidado de Enfermagem Transcultural. Método: estudo reflexivo a partir da Dissertação do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem, da Universidade Federal do Maranhão, intitulada “Cultura de segurança do paciente em terapia intensiva na perspectiva de profissionais de Enfermagem”. Resultados: percebe-se a aproximação da Enfermagem transcultural na avaliação da cultura de segurança do paciente tendo em vista que ela deve ser baseada em uma comunicação eficaz e por práticas que envolvam as culturas dos gestores, organizações, profissionais de Enfermagem e pacientes sustentando o planejamento de ações e a necessidade de prevenção de erros e danos. Conclusão: os conceitos apresentados são perfeitamente apropriados no contexto da cultura de segurança por remeter à necessidade de considerar os aspectos culturais contribuindo, assim, para a prática do cuidado seguro.
