O estudo apontou o conhecimento do usuário do SUS sobre a dengue e os meios favoráveis ao seu desenvolvimento; que conhecem as principais formas de prevenção da patologia e que estas estão relacionadas à higiene do lar, cuidados com água parada em plantas, vasos, pneus e garrafas. Conclusões: A educação permanente dos usuários e vigilância em saúde é fator determinante no controle da dengue, tornando os profissionais de saúde e usuários atores importantes no processo de prevenção da saúde e da Dengue.
Background and Objectives:Dengue is an infectious viral disease transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito that usually has a benign development, but it can result in severe problems for the population. Considered a serious public health problem worldwide, it particularly affects tropical countries, where the climate and sanitary conditions favor the development and proliferation of the transmitter. Disease control is related to the removal of means favorable to the mosquito growth and proliferation. The research aimed to: assess the perception of primary healthcare (PHC) users on dengue and which actions are carried out in households for its prevention.Method: This is s qualitative study carried out with 12 public health system (SUS) users at a Basic Health Unit of the East/Southeast Regional Health Board in the municipality of Teresina-PI, located in the neighborhood that, according to the Municipal Health Foundation, has the highest incidence of the disease. Results: Two categories emerged: Dengue synonymous with disease for the Basic Health Unit user and dengue-prevention as a means of protection. The study indicated the SUS users' knowledge about dengue and the means that are favorable to its development; that they know the main ways of preventing the disease and that these are related to the hygiene of the household, avoiding standing water in potted plants, vases, old tires and bottles. Conclusions: The continuing education of health care users and surveillance is a key factor in dengue control, making healthcare professionals and users vital elements in the process of health and dengue prevention.
