Comprehensive Review on Electric Propulsion System of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Abstract: In recent years, electric unmanned areal vehicles (UAVs) are gaining popularity due to their capabilities in civil and military applications. The rationale is that UAVs can do more complex and risky tasks while maintaining mobility, safety, and cheap cost. UAVs are generally used for inspection and monitoring, search and rescue operation, delivery, precision agriculture, hobbyist applications, and many more. Due to a broad spectrum of applications, UAVs of various sizes and weights have evolved. UAVs have deve… Show more

“…To achieve these characteristics, an electric motor is selected. This choice is enhanced by the fact that, in general, electric motors have many benefits, like low cost, high thrust-to-weight ratio, satisfactory consumption, ease of installation, simple operation, long lifetime, minimal maintenance, and zero operational costs [20].…”

“…The issues of drive sources of UAVs are presented in a number of articles [96][97][98][99][100][101][102][103][104]. Due to the environment's need to overcome the force of gravity, these robots have special power requirements [105][106][107][108][109][110][111].…”

“…Such a propulsion group is typical for modern drones, as shown in [11]. The peculiarities of this system organization are high reliability, efficiency, and speed of the system operation, as well as small thermal and acoustic signatures, which are separately noted in [12]. The motor load is the propeller, the movement of which generates thrust in the motor shaft direction and gyroscopic torque, used to control the yaw in the system.…”
