Background Water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) is one of the worst weeds in the world. Composting is one of the most economical ways for the treatment and final disposal of water hyacinth, because it combines material recycling and biomass disposal. A major restriction of land application of water hyacinth compost is the possible high heavy metal concentration in the final product. Zeolites may be useful as metal scavengers in metal-rich water hyacinth compost. The speciation of heavy metals (Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, Pb, Ni, Cd and Cr) was done according to Tessier's sequential extraction method during water hyacinth composting mixed with cattle manure, sawdust and natural zeolite. The water hyacinth, cattle manure and sawdust were taken in the 6:3:1 ratio with 5, 10 and 15 % natural zeolite, respectively. Results The temperature was measured in the range of 48.6-56.2°C in control and zeolite treatments. Higher reduction of exchangeable (F1) and oxidizable (F4) fractions of Zn was observed about 72.8 and 79.6 %, respectively, in zeolite 1 treatment but higher reduction of carbonate (F2) and reducible (F3) fractions was observed about 70 and 37 %, respectively, in zeolite 2 treatment. The F1, F2, F3 and F4 fractions of Cu and Fe were reduced in the control and all zeolite treatments. The F1, F2, F3 and F4 fractions of Mn were reduced significantly in the all zeolite treatments in comparison to control. The bioavailability factor (BF) of Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cd and Cr was reduced significantly in zeolite treatments in comparison to control. There was no significant change observed with BF of Pb in zeolite treatments. The total concentration of Pb was higher than Zn, Cu, Mn, Ni and Cr but its BF was lowest among the all these metals. Conclusion Addition of optimum percentage of natural zeolite was successful for enhancing degradation of organic matter and reducing bioavailability of heavy metals during water hyacinth composting mixed with cattle manure and sawdust. The bioavailable fractions of heavy metals were effectively correlated with pH and TOC in control and zeolite 1 treatment as compared to zeolite 2 and 3 treatments.

Purpose Declining water resources, increasing drought period and increasing irrigated area cause a shift to deficit irrigated production which is not based on full water requirement. This study was conducted to investigate the impacts of two different deficit irrigation methods, including traditional deficit irrigation (TDI) and partial root-zone drying (PRD) on water use efficiency (WUE) in corn cultivations located at the lands close to the Shahrekord wastewater treatment plant. Methods A factorial design was employed, consisted of fifteen treatments and three replications. The first factor was three water applications, including 60, 80 and 100 (control) percent of plant water requirement. The second factor was three water sources, including 100% fresh water (FW), 50% water and 50% wastewater (5050), 100% wastewater (WW). T-Tape irrigation type system was used for irrigation of corn (Zea mays L.). The third factor was water management in three levels: full irrigation (FI), PRD and TDI. Results The result showed that dry and fresh weight, leaf area index (LAI), dry biomass percentage and WUE were affected by water requirement at 5% probability level expect of height plant that is affected at 1% probability level. Water quality was affected on all the study indicators of corn plant expect of WUE. WUE among PRD by deficit irrigation treatments were higher than TDI and it was the minimum in FI. The dry and wet weight and LAI were maximum at FI and then PDR 80 than TDI 80 . The height of corn plants were high at FI and TDI 80 than PRD 80 . Conclusion Finally, wastewater application in treatment named 5050-PRD 80 and 5050-TDI 80 compensated water deficit in WUE, LAI and dry biomass percentage. PRD method recognized more suitable than TDI for corn plants.

The purpose of this study is to experimentally investigate the SAR (Sodium Adsorption Ratio) and TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) reduction in Reverse Osmosis (RO) concentrate using two types of natural zeolites. In order to reduce salinity of wastewater, experiments were carried out by varying the type of zeolite, concentration of zeolite and residence time. The results show that both zeolites can lower the SAR and TDS of wastewater; however, Rhyolitic tuff is more effective than clinoptilolite. It is observed that the concentration of zeolite has not significant effects on wastewater treatment, so, using the lowest level of selected concentration reduces the cost of desalination. In addition, the effect of residence time is negligible. The experimental set up shows that the SAR reduction slop is higher than TDS. Key words: Salinity, RO concentrates, zeolite, irrigation INTRODUCTIONReverse Osmosis (RO) is a well-known membrane technology for treatment of wastewater and production of potable or irrigation water. The main challenge of RO is the concentrated waste produced during the process (Subramani and Jacangelo, 2014). Several materials and technologies are employed for further treatment of reverse osmosis concentrate in order to reduce the rejected volume or treat it to reuse in other applications. Jing et al. (2009) evaluated the cost of the TDS removal by electricity and investigated ion treatment of wastewater produced in polymer-flooding. They revealed that electricity greatly increases the energy consumption; however, the flow rate effects on energy consumption are negligible. Mohammadesmaeili et al. (2010) evaluated the RO concentrate treatment using lime-soda softening process and showed that efficiency of seawater desalination using lime-soda is 80-90%. Nkwonta and Ochieng (2010) designed a pilot plant for wastewater pretreatment using charcoal and gravel. They demonstrated that filters roughness enhances efficiency of pretreatment process for mine water. They also showed that in general, charcoal outperforms gravel. Mrayed et al. (2011) evaluated the effectiveness and flexibility of Nano Filtration (NF) in producing irrigation water from reverse osmosis concentrates. They showed that Poly Acrylic Acid (PAA) increased the ion adsorption capacity of KOCH membrane; however, it did not affect rejected volume of ions by the NF270 element. Al-Rawajfeh et al. (2011) investigated the influences of three layered porous media composed of Tripoli, Pozzolana and Feldspar on seawater pre-treatment. They showed that the composite media has a significant capacity for adsorbing the seawater ions. Ghyselbrecht et al. (2012) investigated the treatment of RO concentrated volume by a combination of an electro dialysis and willow field. They showed that the combination of electrodialysis and willow field is appropriate for treating RO concentrate. Tabatabaei et al. (2012) investigated the clinoptilolite abilities on decreasing chemical and biological index of the compost factory's leachate.
