Compositions of Serum Lipids, Lipoproteins, and Lipoprotein Fatty Acids in Type IV Primary Hypertriglyceridemia.

Abstract: SummaryThe overall composition of serum lipoproteins and the fatty acid composition of cholesterol esters and phospholipids in the VLDL, IDL, LDL, and HDL were studied in eleven patients with familial type IV primary hypertriglyceridemia. The patients were divided into two groups: HTG 1 (serum triglycerides below 350 mg/dl: 200-294, n = 5) and HTG2 (serum triglycerides above 350 mg/dl: 368-820, n = 6). The data were compared with those from 9 normolipidemic subjects. The proportion of the constituents of VLDL w… Show more

“…Regarding oxidation-related analytes are referred to milligrams of LDLprotein as in our study. In accord with the results of Bredie lipoprotein fatty acid composition, comparison of values reported for normolipidaemic subjects [20,21] with those et al [24], gemfibrozil treatment also had no effect on LDL oxidizability in our patients. reported in Table 2 shows no major differences.…”

“…The concordance of these two parameters provides a first-level of evidence that fatty acid composition mediates some HDL function. Previously described data regarding the influence of ingested fatty acids on the composition of blood lipoproteins are limited in size and scope [33] in comparison to these data. One study noted that corn oil consumption in a single subject increased the ratio of linoleic acid to oleic acid in lipoprotein fractions of different density, but did not measure other fatty acids [34].…”
