Composition, diversity and bioactivity of culturable bacterial endophytes in mountain-cultivated ginseng in Korea

Abstract: Plants harbor diverse communities of bacterial species in their internal compartments. Here we isolated and identified bacterial endophytes from mountain-cultivated ginseng (MCG, Panax ginseng Meyer) to make working collection of endophytes and exploit their potentially beneficial properties toward plants and human being. A total of 1,886 bacteria were isolated from root, stem and leaf of MCGs grown in 24 different sites across the nation, using culture-dependent approach. Sequencing of 16S rDNA allowed us to … Show more

“…Recently, the indole-3-carboxylic acid (IAA) and other auxins have been shown to stimulate cell elongation, resulting in root growth initiation or an enhancement of nutritional elements absorption by the hosts [104,105]. Besides, IAA was supposed to improve the adaptability of plant microbe interaction [106]. are shown next to the branches.…”

“…The transport of ginsenosides from various tissue parts needs to be explored in future experiments. Moreover, ginseng is typically grown in a farm setting under artificial shade conditions often involving pesticides and fertilizers [20,21], and managed by unified practice. Whereas this ginseng is certified organic grown under the shade of a pine forest, accumulation of ginsenosides can be affected by some uncontrolled factors, including soil, moisture, and light [22].…”

“…The extracted genomic DNA was prepared and used as a template. 1.5 kb 16S rRNA genes were amplified using bacterial universal primers (Biomarker biotechnology, Beijing, China) 27F (5 -AGAGTTTGATCCTGGCTCAG-3 ) and 1492R (5 -GGTTACC TTGTTACGA CTT-3 ) [19]. The PCR mixture included 0.5 µM of each primer, 23.5 µL of nuclease-free water, 25 µL master mix, and 1 µL of DNA template, making up a total of 50 µL.…”
